New 2012 DIY List: Spiked Edition

I've been a terrible blogger. I haven't posted since Monday! My camera batteries are dead (again) and I still have outfit shots to upload from Tuesday. But batteries are expensive, and since I'm broke as joke, I figured I would do a little something else to bridge the gap.
You may remember back in December, right before New Year, I made a list of DIYs that I planned for the year. Well I got a little over zealous and ended up doing almost all of them in two weeks. Oopsie.
So I picked a new bunch of DIYs that need doing, all involving one of my favorite clothing additives: SPIKES.

1: Spiked Phone Case
(Picture from the haute obsession)

I'm all about my spikes, so needless to say, I've been dying for one of these for forever. Note that I don't have an iPhone: way too pricy. But my phone is about the same size as one, and any hard case can be adorned with these awesome things. Now I won't be able to put it in my pocket anymore, but it'll definitely be easier to find in my purse.

2: Spiked Trench Coat
(Picture from Stiletto Chic)

I've spiked my share of jackets. One of them landed me at 4 free Lady Gaga concerts courtesy of Top 40 Countdown. But any crust punk will tell you: It's a damn chore. Leather (even pleather) takes what seems like years to completely spike. This is because leather is thick and sturdy. A trench coat, however, is niiiice and thin. So this should only take around 2 hours to do.

3: Spike Ring
(Image and DIY from studs and pearls)

I've made something similar to this a couple times with bottle caps and clear resin. But my rings were all spikes and no mercy. But I really LOVE what studs and pearls did with the iridescent crystals. This looks like a pretty cheap and gorgeous DIY. And you all know how much I love my rings.

4: Spiked Oxfords
(Image from heelsok)

I'll be the first to admit what a freak I am about my oxfords. These shoes are my flat-go-to for almost anything. And i just happen to have way too many pairs of them. So I think I may spike a pair. Either that, or a cute little pair of lace up ankle boots.

5: Studded Shorts
(Picture and DIY from LULUTRIXABELLE)

Okay, not technically spikes. But studs count!
I love this little diddy by LULUTRIXABELLE. I've been meaning to do this one ever since I started following her blog, but I always have a hard time finding shorts that fit my very strange proportioned body.

That's all for now. I promise promise promise I'll get some batteries soon!
Love love.

Beauty in culture

Shirt: Thrifted
Sweater: Thrifted
Shoes: Thrifted
Leggings: ?
Sunglasses: Nine West
Necklaces: Vintage, vintage, ebay, Leo
Rings: Vintage
Bindi: DIY

I think this whole outfit cost less than five dollars. The leggings may have been more, but I don't know, considering they aren't mine! My friend left them at my house forever ago.
I hate double posting of clothes, so I'm sorry for the same shirt two posts in a row! I just love it. It's so comfy.
I looked particularly weird today, mostly because of my bindi. I love binids, but I've never worn one until today. I just didn't know how I felt about wearing something that is supposed to be reserved for a specific culture. I hate when people wear Native American war bonnets because it's extremely disrespectful to the culture. War bonnets represent great accomplishments, typically in combat or warfare. So when the size 00 girls get their war paint on and go take a photo shoot with a head dress and some American Spirit cigarettes, it kind of pisses me off. Maybe because it was their ancestors who introduced small pox to the population and turned in native heads for nickels. Maybe I'm just bitter. So you can see my reservation about wearing a bindi. So before I did it, I did some internet research. It turns out that bindis do have significance, but not one of a certain religion or ethnicity. Bindis are placed in the center of the forehead to protect that specific chakra, provide energy, and better concentration. I made a little one that night, and wore it today!
Making them are pretty easy. Thick paper, craft glue, and some silver beads is what I used. But I do want to order some prettier ones.
Today was tiring. Nap time!

I set all my regrets on fire.

Top: Thrifted, 82 cents
Jeans: Hot Topic forever ago
Necklaces: Vintage, eBay, Leo of Chattanooga
Shoes: Forever 21

Feeling a little funny.
This is my second official day on my new adhd medication, and it's definitely hitting me hard. Sometimes I can't tell whether I'm tired or awake. Hopefully it'll even out a bit more this week.
I'm going out clubbin' tonight. Yes. This is my clubbing outfit. What, you don't wear purple floral tie shirts to the nightclub?
I've been looking for more excuses to wear my pretty taupe platforms for a while now. I wore them to school, but I still walk like an idiot in them. Not good on campus!
I picked up this shirt today randomly. I was going thrifting with a girl friend, and on the way from the library to my car, we got drenched. I was wearing my new ombre fringe shirt, which I was planning to wear out tonight. But it got, well, drenched. Sucky.
But we went to the thrift store anyway. It was mostly a trip for her, because she needed a couple pieces for a costume. So I took in two dollars and figured maybe I could find a new top.
Finding a top in a thrift store for under a dollar isn't always an easy task, and is sometimes next to impossible considering which store you pick to go into. But this one was $1.50, marked down 50% off. I didn't even try it on. I pretty much just grabbed it and ran. Pure class.
I've been after more excuses, also, to wear my pretty purple lipstick. I got a new shade form Mac, the Seasoned Plum of the long wear lips creme. I need it for a cosplay I'm doing in a couple weeks, and I just couldn't find the right shade otherwise. I love the color with my red hair, so it's a win win.
That's all for now. Until next time, knock on someone's window.

DIY Inspiration: Ombre Fringe Tee

I'm sorry for the lack of post today! I looked TERRIBLE today, because I got literally no sleep last night. Too much thinking about upcoming costume stuff! But more on that in a few days.
I saw this shirt in Target a few days ago:

I LOVED this shirt so much, but it was 15 dollars. So I decided to make my own for 5 dollars. 2 for the thrifted tee, 3 for the rit dye. It's a two color instead of three, but I still like the results!

(Please exuse my polka dot leggings and my purple dyed hands!)
Here's how I did it!

This is what you need!
(Colored shirt, oversized if you want a flowier look, a bottle of Rit dye in chosen color, and a bucket.)

Here's what you need to do.

1) Wet the bottom of your shirt.
This step is pretty important because your ombre dye won't fade up correctly if the fabric isn't pretty much saturated. So wet it up a bit higher than what you want ombreified.

2) Set up your dye bath.
Pretty self explanatory. Follow your Rit dye/fabric dye directions!

3) Put the shirt in up to wear you want ombred.

Put it in as high as you would like it to fade.

4) Wait for about 2 minutes.

Now you're going to take the shirt up. Half of what is in the dye bath, take it up.

5) Leave the shirt in for about 5 minutes.
The reason I only kept it in for 5 minutes is because I used the whole ass bottle of Rit dye, which is meant to dye 2 pounds of fabric.

6) Wash it out!

Wash your shirt out mostly like this picture, because you don't want the top of your shirt to get your dye on it!!! So rinse from the top of the ombre dye to the bottom, without flipping or balling your shirt. Make sure it's cold water, and rinse until the water runs clear.

7) Hang up.

Hang up your shirt for a bit until it pretty much stops dripping.

8) Wash and dry!
You need to do this unless you want your color dye to get everywhere.

9) Cut up!

Now make your scoop neck and your fringe bottom.

10) Enjoy!

 Some tips for this DIY!
-Wear some gloves or end up with purple hands like me.
-Remember your color mixing! Like my shirt: blue+pink makes purple. If you have a yellow shirt, and try a blue ombre, you'll end up with a green ombre dip. Which would still be cool, but whatever!

So sorry for the semi-crap pictures! Thanks for reading. XOXO

Shirt: Pac Sun
Sweater: American Rag
Pouch Necklace: Thrifted
Leggings: Bleach DIY
Shoes: Minnetoka
Readers: UO

This is probably going to be one of the few shots I get of me without makeup. It seems like I'm in it all the time!
After going home from not eating anything all day, I sort of felt like a huge pile of crap. And the first thing I wanted to do was take all my makeup off. I don't think it was noticeable in the last set of pictures I put up, but I was in quite a hurry this morning, and painted my eyeliner on two different thicknesses. I looked crazed all day.
My room mate had to meet a client that she's costuming for, so I had to put something more comfortable on or I was going to shoot myself. I kept my bleached leggings, but I needed a t-shirt to drown my sorrow in. Then I noticed how insane I looked with no makeup, and decided to hide behind a pair of big readers.
I think I actually like THIS outfit more than my other this morning!
My room mate is on the other side of the restaurant, talking to her clients about the project, and I'm over here hiding and blogging! Sometimes I get really nervous around big crowds of people. My ADD turns the filter to my mouth completely off, so sometimes I end up saying offensive things or being generally strange. I guess I didn't want to embarrass her ;)
We used to costume together, but there came a time when I just realized I wasn't excelling enough, especially not compared to her. I still make pieces on occasion, but just for close friends.
I put that dream in the closet, and took my dream of being a nurse out.
How'd I get off on this tangent?!
You guys distract me.

Headband: Thrift

It is so hard to get pictures when it is this hot outside!
Today we reached an all time high for March: the last I checked, it was 95 outside. I was really hoping I would get a tan walking back from class, but alas, I was disappointed. Always a tomorrow, I suppose.
Most of these pictures had to be cropped, mostly because I was super unbalanced today, and feeling particularly hawkward. Yes, it's a word.
You can't see my new bleach dye leggings, but never fear, I've got a picture of them for next post.
My cute little blue tunic shirt was great today, mostly because it was hotter than hell. It has a cat. It says Catnap. Hence the post name.
You can see my super awkward toes in these! I love sandals, mostly because I hate wearing shoes. But my toes are so unusual. I kind of curled them inward, because otherwise they'd look even stranger. My dad has the same toes, so you can blame him. Actually, you could probably blame him for anything strange on me physically. I got pretty much everything from my dad. I'm like a little female clone.
I'd like to thank everyone for helping me break my 1000 barrier, and my record page views for one day: I love you all <3
Until next time, kiss and be kissed.

Thank you for the blog love.

Boho Thrift

I went to two second hand stores today and picked up a few things with Samantha. I went thrifting a couple times at home, but it's not exactly the same without my bestie.

I got these tiny white moccasins for Karma when she's finally old enough to wear shoes. I wish they were big enough for my feet! $.99

Creepy painted owl for the living room. Something to watch me while I watch TV. Everyone needs to feel important. $.79

Maybe vintage sunglasses? They feel vintage. I can never tell with Goodwill. $1

Grungy double layer sheer floral dress. Planning to style this with my vintage denim vest or maybe my bleach coat. $2.50

Someone donated a large amount of Native American garb to my local thrift store. A good deal of it does not need to be there considering its authenticity. I scooped up these three headbands for $10.

This unusual object was in the pack with the headbands. It is, I shit you not, a cow skin doily.

The last thing I picked up was this pretty yarn sunflower blanket. $2.

That's all I have to share for now. I'd like to welcome any new followers or commenters that I've gained this past week! I am positively honored :)
As always, comment, subscribe, and stay golden.

 Shirt: Pac Sun
Skirt: Thrifted
Coat Thing: DIY
Rings: Vintage, eBay
Necklaces: Vintage, vintage, eBay, UO
Hat: Thrifted
Socks: Target
Doc Martens: Thrifted

My new bleach dye coat thingy. I love it so much. You can't see the small holes I've made in it from the bleaching process, but trust me. They're there.
I thrifted the skirt for 99 cents at goodwill and cut it to my knees. When stuff is too long, it makes me look really short. Considering I already tower over toddlers at 5'3, I really don't need anymore assistance in that arena.
I looked a little raggy today in my kick ass bleach coat and my calamity jane hat. But that's okay. I consider my style to be very indie ragamuffin anyway.
Do you remember that eyeball jewelry?! You could get it out of 50 cent machines way back when? I happened upon some on eBay, and now I'm like obsessed. There's a pair of earrings I'm watching too. I'm getting eBay freaky.
Have you ever just gone absolutely nuts on eBay? I've spent tons on there at a time, just because I get so into the low prices. Then after I do it, I always feel bad and say never again. But like clockwork a few months later, my watch list is full. Oh well.
This was pretty much just to show off my new coat, so I'm done rambling.
Thank you to all my new followers, you guys are awesome! <3
